Mnemonic
Mnemonic means to assist the memory. A mnemonic is an easily recalled
word or phrase that makes it easier to recall hard-to-remember items, or
simply a device, an image or story, to jog the memory. "Thirty days hath
September..." is a mnemonic. Mnemonics are different from abbreviations,
which are simply a shortening, or from acronyms, words formed from the first
letters of a phrase, as in NATO.
In programmer-speak, a mnemonic is simply a name that is easy to remember.
